President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, has decided to sack all married government officials in the country with illegal relationships outside their marriage.
This was announced by the country's Minister of Internal Security, Gervais Ndirakobuka. According to the Minister, it is the next step in a long-running government campaign to 'moralise society'.
According to the new directive, any married government official keeping illegal relationships or having concubines, commonly known as 'side chics' faces the sack.
The directive which is the second step of the 'moralise society' plan was introduced by the late president, Pierre Nkuruziza.
The late president had in May 2017, passed a law requiring couples in the country to get married by December 2017, or face legal consequences.
According to president Nkuruziza, men dating and impregnating many girls simultaneously in the country resulted to population explosion.
