Confirming the arrest, Director-General of the Hisbah board, Dr. Aliyu Musa Kibiya, said those arrested included eight (8) females and three (3) males in different parts of the state.
“We will investigate and if they have cogent reasons we will release them. Those found wanting will however be enlightened and even prosecuted if need be," he said.
He noted that a woman must not be seen eating in the public during fasting "for whatever reasons", adding that the board will continue to arrest anyone found to be eating during the day.
“Fasting is compulsory for healthy, adult Muslims in the month of Ramadan except for the travellers, menstruating women or old people", he added.
The Hisbah has generated a lot of controversies lately over some arrests made in the state.
On March 25, was the invasion of some off-campus hostels of the Bayero University in Kano, where some students of the opposite sex found in the same room were arrested by officials of the Hisbah.
This and many more arrests made by the Shariah officers over the time have sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians and sundry.
