Many Prisoners Escape As Gunmen Set Owerri Prison On Fire


Gunmen in the early hours of today being Monday, April 5, set the correctional facility in Owerri, Imo state, on fire. 

The gunmen had reportedly struck the prison and freed an unconfirmed number of suspects and inmates. 

Heavy gunfire also rang through the area. 

Meanwhile, Amnesty International had over the weekend disclosed that the Owerri Correctional Centre had 2,156 inmates against its installed capacity of 548 people.
