Following a recent report of a man, Austin, who fled his home in Benin, Edo state, after his wife, Rita, delivered a set of quadruplets, has blamed and attributed his abscondment or action to the current economic situation in the country.
Austin had gone into hiding on hearing his wife had delivered four babies at the General Hospital in Benin on January 2, 2021.
The couple were learnt to have been blessed with five children already before the arrival of the new-born quadruplets, bringing the total children to nine (9).
While speaking to SaharaReporters, Austin disclosed that he couldn't handle the news considering the enormous additional responsibilities the birth of the quadruplets would put him into.
He added that he had no other options than to take to his heels.
“Yes, that’s the truth my brother, I ran away, you know as the whole Nigeria be, no money, nothing. I was once an engineer but now a farmer. I don’t have any money.
“I appeal to the government and well-meaning Nigerians to help us. I wasn’t aware she would give birth to quadruplets; we didn’t do any scan. I really need government support for medical care and many other things," he said.
