This can only indicate a worsened corruption situation in the country as this is the worst ranking Nigeria has recieved in two years.
While fellow African countries; Somalia and South Sudan are perceived as most corrupt nations globally, Nigeria follows Guinea Bissau who finished on 165 to become the most corrupt nation in West Africa region scoring 19 points.
Also on the 49 countries assesed in the Sub-Saharan Africa,12 were found to be more corrupt than Nigeria.
The 12 counties are Zimbabwe, Chad, Eritrea, Burundi, Congo, Guinea Bissau, Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, Somalia and South Sudan.
However, the report explains that the coronavirus pandemic created structural gaps in national health care systems, misappropriation of emergency funds and corruption risks associated with public procurement.
