The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 43 people for prostitution and the illegal sale of alcoholic substances at the Kwanar Gafan vegetable market in Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the arrest, the Commander General of Hisbah, Dr. Harun Ibn-Syna, while parading the suspects on Monday, December 21, in Sharada quarters, was quoted as saying thus;
“Out of the 43, 34 are females while the remaining nine are males, aged between 15 and 18.
“The investigation conducted on the suspects also revealed that eight were found selling hard drugs while one person was caught with 80 cartons of different bottles of beer.’’
Dr Harun also disclosed that 14 of the suspects were HIV positive, as ten (10) are aware of their status while four (4) do not know.
Recovered also at the market were three rolls of female and male condoms.
According to the Commander General, the arrest was a joint effort coordinated by the Hisbah Board and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
While most of the suspects are natives of the state, some were from neighboring states such as Taraba, Niger, Gombe, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi, Cross-River, Anambra and Adamawa.
