Lekki Shootings: Don't make decisions based on fake news _ Lai Mohammed Tells UK Government

Nigeria's Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has urged the United Kingdom (UK) Government to desist from making hasty decisions on the Lagos Lekki Toll Gate incident which occurred on October 20.

Lai Mohammed who noted that the Lekki controversial incident where Men of the Nigerian Army had allegedly opened fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters was a fake news, urged UK lawmakers to desist from imposing sanctions on the Nigerian Government. 

This comes after members of the UK parliament on Monday, November 23, reached an uniamous decision to consider imposing sanctions on officials of the Nigerian Government. 

The UK Government and parliament had accused the Nigerian Government of disrupting the recent peaceful #EndSARS protests across the country, and those involved in the Lagos Lekki Toll Gate shootings which occurred on October 20.

Lai Mohammed while speaking in a held interview with NTA, on Wednesday, November 25, stated that all governments all over the world who have taken hasty decisons on the Toll Gate incident which he tagged as "fake news" should please seek the truth. 

“We are not panicking at all as a government for two reasons – the resolution of the UK Parliament is not the decision of the country and no serious government will take a decision such as imposing sanctions based on fake news.

“This is why we are warning foreign countries to seek the truth and beware of fake news. The entire #EndSARS protest was fuelled by fake news,” he said.
