A middle-aged man identified as Jimoh Jubril, has been arraigned before a Magistrate court in Akure, Ondo state, for allegedly destroying Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu's, campaign vehicle.
Jubril, an indigene of Owo and kinsman to Governor Akeredolu, was apprehended by the police during a pandemonium in the town which resulted to the damage of the vehicle branded with the governor's campaign poster.
He was also accused of causing mayhem as no fewer than five persons lost their lives at Iju Igboroke in Owo town.
The campaign vehicle destroyed was reportedly worth N2.5m.
Arraigned on a six count charge inclusive of attempted murder, conspiracy, and malicious damage, police prosecutor, Mr Adeoye Adesegan affirmed that the offences committed by the suspect was punishable under Sections 332(1) 320(1) 451 and 526 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo state (2006).
Adesegan further asked the court to remand the suspect in prison custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the offences during cross-examination. However, his pleas was not taken by the court.
Presiding over the court judgement, Magistrate Olanipekun Olayomi ordered the detention of Jubril at the Nigeria Correctional Service in the Olokuta area of the state capital, Akure.
Mr Jubril case file is to be also transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice, with the case adjourned till September 15, 2020.
