A middle-aged woman identified as Mrs Ngozi Chukwuani, has been rescued by the Ebonyi State Police Command while being chained to a pillar by her husband for ten hours.
This happened at their residence in the state's capital, no.1, Ike street, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.
According to community residents and witnesses, the husband "Mr Uche", had also hit their daughter's head with the chain while she was pleading with her Dad to stop beating her mother.
Mr Uche reportedly absconded with the opening key to the padlock after chaining his wife to the pillar.
Confirming the incident, Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Security and Utility, Saints Anakor, said that a "welder" was sent to cut the chain.
"One question kept on coming to my mind, what did this woman do to warrant being chained like a dog by her own husband. Does whatever transpired warrant such dehumanization?," Anakor said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Ngozi during interrogation said that her husband, Mr Uche, had earlier threatened to deal with her because his mistress is suffering.
