A former Nigerian soldier identified as Festus, has shared on his Twitter handle @FestusNig, on how his mother was once raped by his fellow soldiers in his former barracks abode.
According to Mr. Festus, His Mum had visited him while still in military service. The mother who bought a lot of varieties for his son and neighbors who were also soldiers ended on a sad note. After cooking and serving her son fellow colleagues, Mr. Festus went for duty later at the day. On coming back from duty, he discovered his mother had been raped by his fellow soldiers in the barracks while on duty.
The neighbors (soldiers) broke into the ceiling and gained entry into the apartment, after which his Mom was stabbed twice at the back and raped. The incident which resulted to a lot of mess in the family attributed to his leaving the Military.
He wrote;
"Rape is a disgusting thing. When I was a soldier serving in 146 battalion. My mum visited me, brought foodstuffs, cooked all sorts of food and served my neighbours (soldiers). At 6pm, I left for my duty. My neighbour broke into the ceiling and gained entry into my apartment.
Stabbed my mum twice at the back and raped her. My mum was a mess and almost took her own life. I didn't forgive myself until I left the army. When you plan of raping anyone, you plan to destroy them. Say No to Rape.''
While condemning rape incident, he stated that any plan of rape on the opposite sex results to destroying the victim.
Recently, a 100-level student of the University of Benin identified as Vera Uwaila, was raped and murdered by unknown men while studying at a church in Edo state.
