A 70-year-old man with the name Lawal was sentenced to 18-months imprisonment for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Governor of Katsina state "Aminu Masari".
It was earlier reported that the man had appeared in a viral video insulting the president and the Katsina state Governor.
The judgement was passed in a court sitting in Katsina state, he was arraigned with two other men on the 5th of May.
While interrogated on why he engaged in the abusive statement, he said his relative was slaughtered by bandits and the deceased cows were taken away. He faulted the Government lackadaisical attitude in ensuring justice was served concerning the issue.
He was found guilty of two count charges of inciting violence and disrespect for civil authorities, six-months jail term for the first charge and one year for the other.
He was however granted a fine option of #10,000 for the first charge and #20,000 for the second charge.
From reports emanating, it appears some good samaritans have cleared the fine and the man has been released.
