Eleven persons have been reportedly found dead from a strange disease which has engulfed the Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. two out of the deceased are identified as Pauline and Fubara.
It was learnt that Pauline died on Friday, while Fubara died on Sunday. According to an anonymous resident, officials of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC), stormed the area on Saturday with the motives of ascertaining the cause of the deaths.
He stated that Eleven persons have died from a strange disease within two weeks in the community. NCDC officials has however taken samples from the community residents voluntarily, this is in view of making some findings before the causes of the deaths is announced officially.
It was also reported that a lot of people had been suffering from Malaria and Typhoid, prior to the deaths incident. this has resulted to increase in the use of drug-resistant malaria in the community.
About 50% of the patients had complained of dizziness, bitterness in the mouth, lack of sense of taste and smell.
However, Secretary of Bonny Local Government Area, Pafuro Tolofar, stated that similar cases have been attended to with the use of allergic drugs for patients with loss of taste and smell. this has yielded some positive improvements. he affirmed that those who had died had suffered some chronic medical diseases beforehand.
