The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development "Sadiya Umar-Farooq" has refuted claims going round that it had distributed weevil-infested rice to South Western states.
During a press briefing in Abuja, She stated that the covid-19 palliative rice was checked and approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Hence, the rice was certified for consumption.
She also claimed that she contacted the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, who in person of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state had affirmed that the one he received at his state and other states were good.
This is coming after a report emanated from Oyo state that the 1,800 bags of rice donated to the state as covid-19 palliatives were weevil infested and not fit for consumption.
The claims which were also peculiar to other South Western states has hereby been debunked by the Federal Government.
